If your house looks a little tired from the street, color is the fastest fix. The latest Valspar exterior color trends, put out for the 2026 painting season by the paint brand sold at Lowe’s, are built from what shoppers actually had tinted. Fall is a great time to repaint outside in the Charlotte area, so here’s our take on those eight paint colors and where each one fits on a local home.
SouthEnd Painting is not affiliated with, certified by or endorsed by Valspar or Lowe’s. Our crews use Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, Behr, Valspar and PPG, and we’re happy to help you choose and apply whichever color you like.
What Valspar Found
Valspar announced the list on April 8, 2026, based on its own tint data. The short version: whites, soft neutrals and black still sell the most exterior paint by volume, but blues, greens and, to Valspar’s surprise, a sunny yellow climbed into its top 100 tints. The brand suggested these colors for full siding or for doors and shutters.
Two of the picks may sound familiar. Encore was Valspar’s 2025 Color of the Year and Warm Eucalyptus was its 2026 pick, so this is a list of proven sellers, not wild experiments. (For Valspar’s 2027 pick, see our post on Valspar Cottage Door.)
The Eight Colors in Plain English
Descriptions are ours, based on Valspar’s chip pages and light reflectance values (LRV, where 0 is black and 100 is white). Always look at a real sample on your house.
The staples
- Ultra White 7006-24: a clean, bright white (LRV about 94). Crisp on trim, columns and porch rails, though it can glare on a whole sunny facade.
- Swiss Coffee 7002-16: a softer, warmer white (LRV about 86). Our go-to when bright white looks too stark next to red or tan brick.
- Dark Kettle Black 4011-2: a true near-black (LRV about 2). Sharp on front doors, shutters, window sashes and railings.
The rising neutrals
- Cream in My Coffee 3003-10C: a warm, light beige (LRV about 72). An easy whole-house siding color with white trim and dark shutters.
- Elephant Gray 4006-2A: a medium, cool gray (LRV about 19). Deep enough for siding on a modern farmhouse or as a shutter color on a light house.
The blues, greens and yellow
- Encore 8002-45G: a deep navy (LRV about 6). Classic on a front door or shutters, especially with white trim.
- Warm Eucalyptus 8004-28F: a muted gray-green (LRV about 21). It blends with the trees and lawns around most Charlotte-area homes and works on siding, shutters or a door.
- Sunglow 3003-2B: a soft, buttery yellow (LRV about 79). Valspar pointed to front doors for this one, but it’s light enough for a cheerful cottage-style house, too.
Three Exterior Schemes for Charlotte Homes
- Red brick ranch: Swiss Coffee trim, Encore shutters and a Sunglow front door for a friendly pop.
- Siding two-story: Cream in My Coffee siding, Ultra White trim and Warm Eucalyptus shutters and door.
- Modern farmhouse: Elephant Gray siding, Ultra White trim and Dark Kettle Black on the door, window sashes and porch lights.
Valspar’s stain data leaned warm and dark too, so if a wood fence or deck sits next to the house, plan its color along with the paint. We can pressure wash it first so it’s clean either way.
Getting a Great Exterior Finish
- Paint in the right weather. Mild, dry fall days help exterior paint go on evenly and cure well. Our fall exterior painting guide explains why now is a good time.
- Prep comes first. We pressure wash, scrape loose paint, replace rotted wood and caulk gaps before any color goes on.
- Coats matter. We apply 2 to 3 coats on every job, and when siding or trim is in rough shape, we start with a primer plus two topcoats.
- Be careful with dark colors on vinyl. We repaint faded vinyl siding with a paint that has a PVC additive. Deep shades like Encore, Elephant Gray or Dark Kettle Black soak up heat, so on vinyl we lean toward lighter colors like Cream in My Coffee or Sunglow and save the dark ones for doors and shutters.
- Check with your HOA. Many Charlotte-area neighborhoods require approval for exterior color changes, so get that before you buy paint.
- Sample big. Valspar offers free chips by mail and in-store samples. Look at them on the house in morning and late-day light; a color that looks pale on a chip often reads lighter still outdoors.
